11 Israeli Teens Indicted Over Gang Rape

A month after the gang rape of a 12-year-old girl in the center of the country was reported, the State Prosecutor’s Office will on Wednesday submit indictments against 11 youths, aged 13 to 17, who will be accused of rape and serious sexual offenses.

The boys are suspected of having forced the girl to engage in sexual relations on several occasions, at least one of them in a school building.

The boys live in different cities and study at different schools. Some of them are claiming that they thought the girl was older, due to her external appearance.

The police suspect that the youths threatened to reveal embarrassing details about the girl if she wouldn’t have sex with them.

The story came to light about a month ago, when the police arrested five minors on suspicion of rape and an indecent act against a 12-year-old girl. Tel Aviv District police investigated the affair, and subsequently carried out additional arrests.

The initial information that exposed the story did not come from the girl but from another source, who gave the details to a police youth officer. The police were also given video clips, which it is suspected documented the acts, including sexual relations between a group of boys and the girl.

"The more we investigate, the clearer it becomes that it is an extremely serious incident," the police said in a statement when the case was revealed. The Education Ministry said that teams were meeting to decide the correct steps to take.
