Who Are They Kidding?

Many of the mainline Protestant churches in the US are calling for a congressional review of American aid to Israel’s military. The ostensible reason for this is Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians.

Who do these organizations think they’re kidding? Arabs in Israel have the right to vote; there is at least one Arab judge in the Israeli court system, and most Israeli Arabs have it far better as citizens of Israel than they would were they under Arab rule.

The real reason for this attitude towards Israel is because many in this country are tired of the harassment America receives from Islamic extremist countries for our friendship with the only true democracy in the Middle East. Instead of standing on principle, these organizations are caving in to terrorist pressure.

More disturbing is the fact that criticism of Israel is often a front for anti-Semitism. Had it been any other country in Israel’s position this protest would not have happened. Had any other country been surrounded by hostile enemies screaming for its destruction there would have been outcries from these organizations. But because it is a country run by Jews a blind eye is turned toward the plight of the Jewish State.
