Ex-intern for N.J. Sen. Robert Menendez snagged in Craigslist pills and drug bust

A former intern for New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez was one of 21 people busted in a Craigslist pills and coke ring, the New York special narcotics prosecutor said Thursday.

"Friendly NYU student who can offer pain relief and anxiety relief," the online ads for the drug scheme promised. "Study longer and without anxiety."

Yasmin Malhotra, 25, an international affairs grad student at New York University who interned for the United Nations, peddled sedatives Xanax and Klonopin in SoHo and the Meatpacking District, prosecutors say.

Nearly a dozen of those arrested in Operation Dot Com sold Adderall, a drug for hyperactivity gobbled by students to help them concentrate.

"There's an epidemic of prescription drug addiction and abuse in New York that is ruining lives and producing violent crime, including drug store robberies in which gunmen have demanded their drug of choice by name" said Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

Investigators said they also collared celebrity photog Charlyn Zlotnik, who has snapped album covers for Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash, and failed Internet entrepreneur Jennifer Sultan, caught this summer in a drug and gun ring, in the sweep.

On Thursday night, a Brooklyn dental assistant who also was busted in the sting was sprung without bail from Manhattan Criminal Court.

Rosanna Gorgy, 23, was released on her own recognizance by Judge Joanne Quinones, despite allegedly dealing high-powered prescription pills to undercover cops on at least three occasions. One of the coded-as "study aids" sales was caught on video according to court papers.

"She was duped by a friend," said Gorgy's lawyer, Aaron Wallenstein, who claimed his client was supporting her mother and sister. "She didn't know what was going on."

Gorgy returns to court Nov 2.
